...
I typically do not slow down enough to write or read for pleasure on a regular basis but one thing I do is capture life's moments through the lens of a camera. This isn't something I claim to be good at. In fact, photographer doesn't even come to mind when I think of who I am. What does come to mind is I'm the one with the camera journeying through life as a wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend.

1.29.12 - Wild at Heart

Everything in me wanted to say no when Jalen asked me if
I'd let the neighbor kids pull him behind their snowmobile.
I told him it would make me worry as I didn't want him
to get hurt.  Knowing Jalen's cautious nature I knew if it looked
scary he wouldn't do it.  Thinking of a boys need to be a
boy I told him he could.  I then cautiously watched to ensure
this mother hen approved.  I'm so glad I said yes.
He loved it and the neighbor boys were so careful with him.
On a side note, I picked the most adventurous looking picture...I love Jalen's face and
can only imagine what he is thinking!

Saturday

1.28.12 - Keep'n Busy

It's always good to find something a little different to keep
their minds busy otherwise you might loose your mind.
Here's a picture of the finished Michael's $1 craft.
Definitely worth every penny.

Friday

1.27.12 - Let's Go Alward

What an evening - fun & a little crazy pretty much sums it up.
It was my first time adventuring out responsible for 3 children
knowing all well that Derk would not be around to help (luckily
others were).  It also was the first time Jalen sat in the "student"
section.  This of course left me a little nervous and nostalgic
watching him cheer for his Dad on the basketball court.

Thursday

1.26.12 - Super Fan?

Friday is Super Fan Day at school - Jalen's first.
Will he get crazy and express his school spirit?

Wednesday

1.25.12 - Simple Pleasures...

...opening the cabinet door and having
things organized and tidy.

Tuesday

1.24.12 - Final Undecking of the Halls

Just took down our Christmas Cards...I loved having seeing all
the pictures hanging so I had a hard time taking them down.

Sunday

1.22.12 - Pirate Ship Still Alive

This Christmas present has been a home run.
Ty plays with it almost every day.

Friday

1.20.12 - Alone All Day With All Three

Today was the first day that I had all three kids by myself.
I decided I had better have a plan to keep the boys occupied
so we made Grandma & Grandpa a card.  Not just any card but
a card that we added to throughout the day.  The boys shared
their masterpiece with Grandma later that day when
Derk and I enjoyed date night.

Thursday

1.19.12 - Such a Pretty Girl

Our Lucy Lou got a haircut.  Hopefully now she won't bring in
so much of that cold white stuff that is all over the ground.

Tuesday

1.17.12 - Family Puzzle Time

This was a 3-D puzzle so it was a little tricky but we
figured it out and were proud of the final product.

Monday

1.16.12 - It's Not What It Looks Like

Tyler is shooting the animals on Lauren's Noah's Ark
blanket, he isn't shooting her.  :)

Saturday

1.14.12 - Can't Get Enough...

...of the pictures with the boys loving on her.

Friday

1.13.12 - Potty Training Moment

Maybe we made him sit there too long because
when I came back to see if he had pooped he
was all hunch over sucking his thumb.

Thursday

1.12.12 - I Totally Agree!

Rough life...sleeping, eating, pooping...it's enough to give you
a headache or maybe it's the boys running around like
monkeys...BROTHERS!

Wednesday

1.11.12 - Quick, Grab The Camera

Jalen reads Lauren a book for the first time.
We got it on video too!

Tuesday

1.10.12 - What A Life!

I paused for a moment after dinner and thought...
man do these kids have have the life!  I thought if I could
trade places with one of them who would it be?

Jalen was flying his paper airplane around the kitchen.
~
Ty was marching around the island singing a song.
 ~
Lauren was sound asleep.
 ~
Lucy, well she was being Lucy - carrying a stuffed animal
around trying to get someone to play with her.

I grabbed my camera to capture the moment and
thought...I'm happy being their mom. What a life I have
enjoying a typical evening.

Monday

1.9.12 - Evening Ritual...Kid Requested

We're great at reading to our kids every night before bed.  It's one
of those things Derk and I both love to do with them.  I've tried
to work  in "bible story" time but for one reason or another it
doesn't stick.  We visited with good friends ours who we've
been in a small group with for almost 10 years. They have
an after dinner family ritual where they read a bible
lesson together.  We've joined them in this ritual a few
times over the years when we've eaten with them.
After our recent visit with them Jalen asked if
we could read a bible story after a meal and so we have.
We are using My First Hands-On Bible...I highly recommend
this book, as it has interactive suggestions throughout the kid friendly
length readings. In addition, it offers probing questions that translate
the story to real life, a prayer and various follow on activities. It keeps
our kids attention and what's best is this ritual was kid requested!

Sunday

1.8.12 - Grandpa O Challenge

Grandpa O gave Jalen a nickle, dime, quarter and penny
then challenged him to get each to stand on their own.
We didn't think it was possible but Jalen got each of them to
balance fairly quickly then grinned from ear to ear.

Thursday

1.5.12 - I Want To Hold Her!

We are never short handed in this house.
The boys want to hold Lauren constantly.

Wednesday

1.4.12 - All 4 Seasons

I've been taking various pictures around our yard during
each season.  I never really appreciated the beauty
of each season until we lived in this home.
God's creation is amazing!

Tuesday

1.3.12 - A Little Bit of Jealousy

Lucy started gnawing on Derk's hand which was
resting on Ty's side.  Ty nestled his way in next to Derk
who was talking to Lauren...is there enough love to go around.
SURE...everyone's gotta have their turn.

Monday

1.2.12 - Creamy Tomato and Bacon Linguine

Comfort food...simply delicious!  Followed the recipe with a few
modifications...used bowtie noodles, tomatos with green chilis,
did not use red pepper flakes b/c of the green chilis in the tomatos,
I used grated Parmesan, cream cheese and goat cheese for
the cheese selections.  Here's the link to the recipe.

Sunday

1.1.12 - Lauren Meets Lauren

Lauren has always been our staple girl name.  If Jalen
had been a girl his name would have been Lauren.
Good friends, Mike & Lisa had a baby girl shortly
after we had Jalen and named her Lauren.  She is a smart,
incredibly kind, sweet girl.  She has worn the name well
and now there are two Laurens to do just that.
